<dcterms:accessRights>Acesso restrito - UL</dcterms:accessRights><dc:type>info:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesis</dc:type><dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format><dc:link>http://catalogo.ul.pt/F/?func=item-global&doc_library=ULB01&type=03&doc_number=000580963</dc:link><dcterms:abstract>The anchoring effect - the assimilation of a numeric estimate to a standard - has been attributed to the high accessibility of anchor-consistent target information at the time of the estimate about the target. The selective accessibility hypothesis posits that selective activation of anchor-consistent information is due to a process of confirmatory hypothesis-testing that the target is equal to the anchor (Mussweiler & Strack, 1997). However, it is proposed that activation/monitoring theory (Roediger & McDermott, 1995) also explains the activation and accessibility of anchor-consistent target information through a retrieval process that uses composite cues incorporating the target+anchor, and also proposes a monitoring process of this activation, which allows a partial correction of the bias. It is proposed a methodology to compare the above two theories, bringing the subject to answer the two questions of the paradigm under time pressure. In these conditions, the theory of activation/monitoring expects an increase in the anchoring effect, since the monitoring and correction processes should be affected by time pressure. The selective accessibility hypothesis expects a reduction in the anchoring effects, since time pressure should affect the confirmatory hypothesis-testing process that the target is equal to the anchor. The anchoring effect in this condition would be compared to that obtained in a replication study of Mussweiler and Strack (1999, study 3), which showed a similar anchoring effect between a condition without time pressure and a condition with time pressure only in the comparative question. It is expected therefore to contrast the two theories, gathering evidence of the corrective procedures that supports the theory of activation/monitoring and refutes the selective accessibility hypothesis as an explanation of the anchoring effect.</dcterms:abstract><dc:subject>Ancoragem</dc:subject><dc:subject>Monitorização</dc:subject><dc:subject>Teses de mestrado - 2009</dc:subject></record></value></md></mds><relations/><stream_ref><file_name>22315_ulfp034916_tm.pdf</file_name><file_extension>pdf</file_extension><mime_type>application/pdf</mime_type><directory_path>/digitool_storage/deposit-master/2010/05/10/file_1/22315</directory_path><file_id xsi:nil="true" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"/><storage_id>1006</storage_id><external_type>-1</external_type><file_size_bytes>14917159</file_size_bytes></stream_ref></xb:digital_entity></xb:digital_entity_call>
