Abstract: Este artigo parte da necessidade de clarificação dos elementos constitutivos da investigação em educação matemática. Em particular, discute-se o papel da teoria na investigação e a noção de framework teórico, prático e conceptual adoptando a terminologia utilizada por Eisenhart. Terminamos com considerações sobre o papel do framework conceptual na investigação e a referência a necessidade de incluir o problema metodológico da caracterização do quadro teórico conceptual numa agenda de investigação em educação matemática.; This article draws from the need for clarification of constitutive elements of research in &#xD;
mathematics education. In particular, we discuss the role of theory in research and the &#xD;
notion of theoretical, practical and conceptual framework adopting the terminology of &#xD;
Eisenhart. Finally we address the issue of the role of a conceptual framework in &#xD;
research and the reference to the need of including the methodological problem of &#xD;
characterizing the framework in an agenda for research in mathematics education.</description>
