As atitudes dos enfermeiros face avaliação da dor crónica nos doentes oncológicos

Abstract

Este estudo de natureza descritiva quantitativa tem como objectivo principal, descrever as atitudes dos enfermeiros face à avaliação da dor crónica nos doentes oncológicos. A amostra é constituída por 93 enfermeiros de três hospitais da região de Lisboa com uma média de idades de 30,54 anos, 45,2% (n=42) com o grau de Licenciatura e com a categoria de enfermeiros. Ao longo do seu percurso profissional referem 91,4% (n=85) ter adquirido formação sobre avaliação e tratamento da dor. Uma pequena percentagem 18,3% (n=17) adquiriu essa formação através de pós-graduações e equivalentes. No entanto, 76,5% (n=65) dos enfermeiros consideram a formação insuficiente. Sentem dificuldades na avaliação da dor crónica nos doentes oncológicos. È de salientar que 74,2% (n=69) fazem registo da intensidade da dor através de uma escala de dor. As variáveis independentes não influenciam as atitudes dos enfermeiros neste estudo. As variáveis independentes são: idade, habilitações académicas, categoria profissional, anos de experiência em oncologia e formação. Quanto aos resultados, as variáveis deste estudo não influenciam significativamente do ponto estatístico as atitudes dos enfermeiros neste estudo. Os enfermeiros têm poucos conhecimentos sobre dor referentes às dimensões da atitude (avaliação da dor, tratamento da dor, dor psicológica, dor espiritual e efeitos secundários da terapêutica analgésica). Os resultados sugerem a necessidade de formação sobre dor.

This study of descriptive and quantitative nature has for its principal objective to describe the attitudes of nurses regarding chronic pain evaluation in oncology patients. The sample is composed by 93 nurses of three hospitals in the Lisbon area, with age of 30,54 years old, 45,2% (n=42) with grade Bachelor of Science in nursing, and grade of nursing category. During they professional path, 91,4% (n=85) refer to have obtained education on treatment and evaluation of the pain. A small percentage 18,3% (n=17) has acquired that education through post-graduate courses and equivalent ones. However, 76,5% (n=65) of the nurses consider the training insufficient. They feel difficulties in assessing chronic pain on oncology patients. Its important to emphasize that 74,2% (n=69) make the registry of pain intensity through a pain scale. The independent variables do not influence the nurses’ attitudes in the study. The independent variables are: age, academic qualifications, nursing category, years of experience in oncology, training. Facing the results, the variables of this study do not statistically influence significantly the attitudes of the nurses in the study. The knowledge in the nurses attitudes through: (pain evaluation, psychological pain, treatment of the pain, spiritual pain and secondary effects of the analgesic therapeutics) it is a revealed deficit and inconsistent responses in many areas related to pain. The results strongly suggest the need of education on pain.
