Abstract: The present thesis is undertaken in the field of art education in historical heritage contexts. The Porto de Mós castle, Portugal, is regarded as a valuable resource, able to accommodate educational activities. One specific activity was developed, focused on preschool children from the neighborhoods. In order to support this activity’s planning and evaluation, a full visiting schedule to different museum educational services and facilities was performed, either in Portugal or abroad: Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea – Museu do Chiado, Museu Colecção Berardo, Mosteiro da Batalha, Centro de Interpretação da Batalha de Aljubarrota, Museu Itaú Cultural de São Paulo, Museu Lasar Segall, Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo. The museums and the educational services were reviewed in litterature. The activity was developed in three schools, encompassing five classes, ages between three and six. With the help of an assistant impersonating the knight character of D. Fuas Roupinho, three different actions were made available to the children, in the castle scenery: “D. Fuas by himself,” “mini architects,” and “the lords of the castle.” Every activity was released to the local media with a reasonable impact near the population, grabbing other schools attention. The targets accomplished in this action are fully reported, sketching a model for art education on historical environment. The thesis finally sets some political suggestions and some further future actions are previewed.
