Contributo ao estudo da influência da função paterna na estima corporal

Abstract

Tendo em conta a investigação realizada no âmbito da relação entre o pai e o narcisismo, propus-me a estudar qual a influência do pai no narcisismo da mulher. O objectivo do estudo foi assim apurar se existe influência da função paterna na construção do narcisismo na mulher, quer com o pai enquanto ser individual quer enquanto membro de um casal. Com esta finalidade, numa amostra de 91 indivíduos do sexo feminino, com idades entre os 18 e os 23 anos, aplicaram-se os seguintes instrumentos de medida adaptados: o Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (Armsden & Greenberg, 1987); a Body Esteem Scale (Franzoi & Shields, 1984) e um questionário sócio-demografico. Esperava-se que existisse uma correlação positiva entre a representação do pai, vinculação ao pai e a estima corporal (hipótese 1), uma correlação positiva entre a vinculação ao casal e a estima corporal (hipótese 2). Os resultados obtidos demonstram que todas as hipóteses foram refutadas, embora a maioria das correlações efectuadas tenham sido positivas. São apontadas as limitações e outras possibilidades de investigação.

Having regard to the investigation in the relationship between father and narcissism, I set myself to study the influence of fathers in the narcissism of women. The purpose of this study was thus to determine whether there is influence of the paternal role in the construction of narcissism in women, with either parent as an individual, and as a member of a couple. For this purpose, a sample of 91 females, aged between 18 and 23 years, we applied the following instruments have been adapted: the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (Armsden & Greenberg, 1987), the Body Esteem Scale (Franzoi & Shields, 1984) and a socio-demographic questionnaire. It was hoped that there was a positive correlation between the representation of the father, attachment to the father and body esteem (Hypothesis 1), a positive correlation between attachment to the couple and body esteem (Hypothesis 2). The results show that all hypotheses were rejected, although most correlations have been made positive. We point out the limitations and other research possibilities.
