Wilde versus Douglas: da educação à revolta da arte

Abstract

"Wilde versus Douglas: da educação à revolta da arte" descreve sumariamente a recepção da vida e obra de Oscar Wilde, salientando o seu estatuto negligenciado de educador. É estabelecida uma similitude com Sócrates e Cristo e são destacados alguns momentos essenciais da sua autoconstrução como figura modelar. Pygmalion de George Bernard Shaw e textos de André Gide são usados para definir um modelo e uma prática. A relação de Wilde e Douglas é inicialmente caracterizada de acordo com o modelo educativo socrático-platónico. Tentar-se-á definir o falhanço do processo de educação, mas comprovar a vitória do processo estético.

ABSTRACT: "Wilde versus Douglas: from Education to the Mutiny of Art" briefly describes the reception of Oscar Wilde's life and work, underlining his much neglected role as an educator. A comparison with Socrates and Christ is established and some essential moments of his self-construction as a model figure are pinpointed. George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and some other texts by André Gide are used for defining a model and a practice. The relationship between Wilde and Douglas is initially described according to Socrates and Plato's educational model. This thesis will try to define the failure of the educational process but prove the victory of the aesthetical process.
