Leitura extensiva : o papel das actividades e dos materiais na motivação dos alunos

Abstract

O presente relatório descreve a Prática de Ensino Supervisionada do Mestrado em Ensino de Inglês e Alemão no 3º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e Ensino Secundário, pelo que reflecte o percurso da leccionação das aulas na turma E do 3º Ciclo do Ensino Básico da Escola Básica e Secundária Passos Manuel. As unidades curriculares descritas tiveram como principais objectivos: 1) motivar os alunos para a leitura em Língua estrangeira através de materiais, actividades e tarefas apelativas; 2) desenvolver nos alunos hábitos de leitura; 3) incentivar os alunos a escrever pequenos textos, adequados ao objectivo e à situação. 4) promover mecanismos de compreensão e interpretação de textos. Numa primeira fase, foi elaborado um Questionário intitulado Reading and You no qual os alunos deram conta das suas preferências literárias e da sua dificuldade/facilidade e interesse/desinteresse em ler em Inglês. Verificou-se que a maioria dos alunos não gosta de ler em Inglês, pelo que se tornou necessário proceder a uma intervenção didáctica e pedagógica relativas à leitura extensiva através da planificação e leccionação das aulas, no sentido de motivar os alunos para a leitura. Ao longo das aulas foram desenvolvidas actividades sequenciadas que culminaram numa tarefa final de aula e, por fim, de unidade curricular. Os instrumentos de avaliação foram de natureza formativa e contínua, pela observação do envolvimento dos alunos na execução das actividades e tarefas. Os resultados obtidos corroboram a importância dos materiais e actividades para um aumento da motivação dos alunos, na medida em que no final das unidades curriculares os alunos detinham uma atitude positiva e activa perante a leitura em Língua Estrangeira.

This report describes the Supervised Teaching Practice within the scope of the Mestrado em Ensino de Inglês e Alemão no 3º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e Ensino Secundário thus it portrays the English classes teaching path for the 9th grade from Passos Manuel E.B.S school. The main objectives of the units were: 1) motivate students to read in foreign language using appealing materials and activities; 2) develop reading habits; 3) encourage students to write small texts appropriated to the objective and situation; 4) promote mechanisms of comprehension and interpretation of texts. In a first phase one elaborated a Questionnaire named Reading and You in which students referred their literary preferences as well as their difficulties/facilities and interest/disinterest in reading in English. One verified that most of the students did not like reading in English due to their difficulty with vocabulary, therefore it was necessary to proceed in terms of a didactic and pedagogic intervention through planning and teaching, in order to motivate students to read. Throughout the lessons sequenced activities were developed which ended in the final task of the lesson and of the unit. The evaluation was manly formative and continuous, through the observation of the work of students concerning the activities and tasks. The results confirm the importance of material and activities to increase the motivation of students towards reading, as at the end of the units the students had a positive and active attitude reading in English.
