Specchio di Croce foi escrito pelo frade italiano dominicano Domenico Cavalca no primeiro quartel do século XIV com o intuito de transmitir, a partir de uma reflexão sobre a Paixão de Cristo, os fundamentos da Teologia e da fé a todos os que não tinham conhecimentos de latim. Obra com uma vasta tradição manuscrita e impressa italianas, conhecem-se dois manuscritos provenientes do Fundo de Santa Maria de Alcobaça com a tradução portuguesa: o ALC 89 e o ALC 221.
Dada a inexistência de uma edição ou de um estudo aprofundado sobre a tradição portuguesa, a presente dissertação tem como objetivo preencher esta ausência com uma edição semi-diplomática do ALC 89 e a colação deste com o ALC 221. Como linhas orientadoras deste projeto estão a determinação da relação estemática entre os dois manuscritos portugueses, tanto pela materialidade como pela textualidade, mas também o conhecimento da relação desta tradução com outras traduções românicas conhecidas. Assim, após uma breve introdução aos contextos de partida e de chegada do texto no primeiro capítulo, ambos os códices são descritos codicologicamente no segundo capítulo. No capítulo seguinte, a informação material será analisada à luz da hipótese do carácter preparatório, e por conseguinte modelar, do ALC 89 face ao ALC 221. O quarto capítulo destaca os dados textuais recolhidos no aparato crítico, os quais são categorizados e analisados no sentido de encontrar semelhanças ou divergências significativas entre os manuscritos. O quinto capítulo aprofunda o conhecimento sobre a tradução portuguesa com as tradições (manuscritas ou impressas) italiana, catalã e castelhanas já iniciado por Martins (1956), Cornagliotti e Piccat (1991) e Cambraia e Santos (2019). O último capítulo reúne um resumo do que nos capítulo anteriores foi analisado, de modo a poder estabelecer-se uma proposta de stemma codicum para a tradição portuguesa de Specchio di Croce.
Written in the first quarter of the 14th century by the Italian Dominican frey Domenico Cavalca, Specchio di Croce had the specific aim to transmit, from a reflection of the Passion of Christ, the fundamentals of Theology and faith to those who didn’t know Latin. With a wide Italian manuscript and print traditions, there are only two known manuscripts of the Portuguese translation: ALC 89 and ALC 221, both from the Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça Fund. Given the inexistence of any full edition or in-depth study about the Portuguese tradition, this dissertation aims to fulfill that space with a semi-diplomatic edition of the ALC 89 manuscript and the collation with the ALC 221 manuscript. Alongside these purposes is the ascertainment of the stemmatic relation between the two Portuguese manuscripts, both by their material and textual characteristics, but also the relation between this tradition and other romance traditions. Therefore, following a succinct introduction to the source and target contexts in the first chapter, both manuscripts are descripted codicologically in the second chapter. The following chapter considers all the information concerning the material aspects and interprets it in light of the thesis of the preparatory condition of the ALC 89 ms. in contrast to the ALC 221 ms. The fourth chapter highlights the textual data of the critical apparatus, which is categorized and analyzed to find significant similarities or disparities between manuscripts. The fifth chapter deepens the knowledge about the Portuguese translation with both manuscript and print Italian, Catalan and Castilian traditions first studied by Martins (1956), Cornagliotti and Piccat (1991) and Cambraia and Santos (2019). The final chapter summarizes the previous chapters in order to present a proposal od the stemma codicum for the Portuguese tradition of Specchio di Croce.
